anyone who knows me is well aware that i am a proud angeleno, so its no surprise when kyle of LA I’M YOURS  hit me up for an interview i was pretty excited. also kyle independent of his blog is a pretty fantastic person to spend time with. and when laure offered to shoot my studio… i was all smiles! (and so was hannah. she is obsessed with miss joliet.)

unlike most interviews i have done that focus on the product in this particular story kyle really emphasized questions regarding the cross over between art and commerce. he had me asking myself questions i knew the answers to in my head but hadn’t really spent a lot of time communicating to a larger audience – and thank you kyle for that challenge. often times the chaparral studio “image” is limited to pretty pictures of succulents and crystals so its great to be able to engage and share my relationship and history with art and what business has done to me along with the influence my town, los angeles.

the photos of the studio are all by the amazing laure joliet. she came just in time, as my studio mate quinn built these beautiful custom shelves. hire him! he is amazing!

after careful consideration, it came to our attention that the cloth we wipe our brushes on is too beautiful not to highlight. the build up of strokes, stains, colors blending and clashing are the result of our hard work in the studio. so we have framed our favorite areas for this exclusive series.

reminiscent of the la sunsets, no two framed pieces are alike.

when ordering keep in mind that your piece will be different than the images pieces pictured above. if you are not comfortable with a surprise get in touch for images of what we currently have.

additionally in the past we have made table cloths and runners with our markings for our displays, home, custom gifts and for various events. they stained fabric adds a lovely ethereal touch to any environment. should this interest you please get in touch. contact@chaparral-studio.com

recently headed to joshua tree for an art event that i participated in along with my studio mates over at elephant. we built a stage that resembled our backyard. barb wire, cacti, hula hoops and all. on the stage many a performance by a friend or a stranger danced us / rocked us / took us… in to the night! the desert was littered in sculptures and survivors of the days sun rays.

we had originally planned on camping but thanks to last minute heat fear we landed a sweet rental on air bnb in 29 palms. we shared a large house that as it turns out had quite the history in town, a pool that overlooked the basin and hills and was surrounded by native flora and other friendly plants. nights spent swimming in the salt water pool under a huge blanket of stars certainly makes it on my list of favorite things to do.

the event ended with a much needed sound bath at the integratron, a meal at pappy & harriets and lucky for us, my man and i shared another night and day in the desert with swimming and some more art viewing. folks say that the sea heals. i agree, but they should also try the desert. nothing like a huge sky above you in the wild west.
