my dear friend kate miss is getting married this month! (woohoo! wave the flags! and do a little dance – i really like her husband to be! and kate. duh.)

the lovely bride to be was celebrated recently at a bridal shower hosted at laura’s magical house overlooking the city. creative ladies katie and lisa made amazing treats (both edible and keepsake). i was asked to provide the flora. planted arrangements are my regular gig so any chance i get to work with flowers is very exciting. i picked up a romantic little collection for the occasion that consisted of soft beauties like queen anne’s lace, chamomile and ombre white to pink to lavender dahlias. naturally the bunch had to have some succulents from my garden added to the mix.

i also made a crown for the babe of the hour. was tempted to make collars of flowers for the dogs too… maybe next time!

i am very backed up on posting images of the custom work i’ve done recently. but lets begin with these two custom terrariums. both involved depicting the ocean so it seemed appropriate to pair ’em up! although one terrarium is of anartica. the other of carpenteria, ca. always fun to be given a challenge like “can you make a zodiac inflatable boat?” or a beach! never a dull moment when i get to dig around our my crazy collection of materials and make a person’s story come to life in a miniature scene under glass.

stay tuned for more soon…

recently headed to joshua tree for an art event that i participated in along with my studio mates over at elephant. we built a stage that resembled our backyard. barb wire, cacti, hula hoops and all. on the stage many a performance by a friend or a stranger danced us / rocked us / took us… in to the night! the desert was littered in sculptures and survivors of the days sun rays.

we had originally planned on camping but thanks to last minute heat fear we landed a sweet rental on air bnb in 29 palms. we shared a large house that as it turns out had quite the history in town, a pool that overlooked the basin and hills and was surrounded by native flora and other friendly plants. nights spent swimming in the salt water pool under a huge blanket of stars certainly makes it on my list of favorite things to do.

the event ended with a much needed sound bath at the integratron, a meal at pappy & harriets and lucky for us, my man and i shared another night and day in the desert with swimming and some more art viewing. folks say that the sea heals. i agree, but they should also try the desert. nothing like a huge sky above you in the wild west.
